Bandits sign Latvian defenceman Krists Retenais, will make debut Friday in Cranbrook

BROOKS, AB (January 3, 2025) – The Brooks Bandits have announced defenceman Krists Retenais has signed with the team and will make his debut on Friday night in Cranbrook.

Retenais, 18, began this season with the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), where he dressed in seven games. He most recently played for Team Latvia at the 2025 U20 World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, ON.

The left-shot, 5’10 168lb defender was captain of HS Riga during the 2023-24 season, scoring 22 points in 29 games.

Latvia is coming off a hugely successful World Juniors that saw them upset Canada and beat Germany in the Preliminary Round, qualifying for the Quarterfinals where they narrowly lost to Sweden by one goal on January 2nd.

The Bandits face the Bucks on Friday, January 3rd, game time is 7:00 pm MST from Western Financial Place in Cranbrook. Listen to live coverage on New Country 105.7 FM.

The Bandits host the Bucks on Saturday, January 4th at the Centennial Regional Arena, game time is also 7:00 pm.
